What is the Difference Between Large and Small Particle Urea

What is the Difference Between Large and Small Particle Urea
Currently on the market there are large and small particles of urea, in the price, the price of large particles of urea is slightly higher than small particles of urea, large particles of urea why to sell slightly expensive? Is it that the large particles of urea to be higher quality than small particles of urea, fertilizer efficiency?

Generally speaking, urea with a particle diameter greater than 2 mm or more is called large particle urea. The difference in particle size stems from the difference in the granulation process and equipment used in the production of urea in the factory, so what are the similarities and differences between large and small particle urea in application methods and fertilizer efficiency?

The similarity between large and small granular urea is that their active ingredients are water-soluble, fast-acting nitrogen molecules, and the nitrogen content is 46%. From a physical point of view, the difference is that the particle size is different. Large particle urea has low dust content compared to small particle urea, higher compressive strength, good fluidity, can be transported in bulk, not easy to break and caking, and suitable for mechanized fertilization. This causes the difference between different granules of urea in application methods, fertilizer efficiency, price, etc.

Urea are molecular nitrogen, they are directly absorbed by the crop in small quantities, to be converted into ammonium nitrogen in the soil before it can be absorbed in large quantities. So urea, regardless of particle size, for fertilizer application a few days earlier than ammonium carbon.

It should be noted here that both large and small particles of urea cannot be mixed with ammonium, sodium, ammonium bicarbonate and other hygroscopic fertilizers.

The difference is that the dissolution rate of large particles of urea is a little slower, suitable for the base fertilizer, not suitable for fertilizer and wash fertilizer. Its particle size matches that of diammonium phosphate, and can be used as a blended compound fertilizer material.

Small particle urea is suitable for various soils and various crops, it is a nitrogen fertilizer with high nitrogen content, and can be applied as base fertilizer and chasing fertilizer. When applying small granular urea as a fertilizer, it is best to apply it in strips or holes, and try not to spread it. If you can't apply it in strips or holes, it's best to apply it before and after a light rain, when the soil is moist. The amount of fertilizer should not be too much when used as greening fertilizer, but should be sufficient when used as tiller fertilizer and spike fertilizer. It also has a certain effect on yield when used as root chasing fertilizer. Small particle urea is suitable for foliar fertilization, its concentration is generally 0.5%~2%.

The surface area of small particles of urea is large, and the contact surface with water and soil is large after application, and the speed of dissolution and release should be slightly faster. Large particles of urea in the soil dissolve and release a little slower, in general, the difference between the two fertilizer effect is very small.

This is reflected in the application method, for example, as a follow-up fertilizer, the fertilizer effect of small particles of urea is slightly faster than that of large particles of urea. In terms of losses, the losses of large grain urea are smaller, and large grain urea has a lower content of diurea, which is beneficial to the crop.
